WordPress with W3 Total Cache plugin? Should you worry?

W3 Total Cache Christmas Vulnerability

On this year’s Christmas day, many WordPress users were quite unpleasantly surprised by a vulnerability in the popular W3 Total Cache plugin. The issue was a serious one, allowing the attacker to get access to sensible information from the WordPress database including password hashtags, usernames and much more. This meant that an experienced hacker could get full access to your site, download your personal information from it, change its looks, include malicious code, add backdoors for future access and much more bad things, you wouldn’t want to experience. Sounds scary? Not if you host with SiteGround!

An amazing 2012 recap event

An Amazing 2012 Recap

When you hear “end of year recap”, you probably imagine a big hall full of bored people that cannot wait for the managers to finish their polished presentations. Well, not when the recap event is happening at SiteGround! What we had instead, was a totally transformed office with one half of it looking like a gambling room with Roulette, Black Jack, Texas Hold’em and hot hostesses and the other half reminding of the Olympic Games and holding sport tournaments. These gaming activities were followed by the real yearly recap presentation that I bet was more fun and had better hosts and videos than the last Oscars. And the whole thing ended up with what can be surely awarded as the best night-life event of the year.

SuperCacher: we go beyond being just fast!

SuperCacher

Throughout the years SiteGround accomplished remarkable results in terms of performance and loading speed of our clients’ websites. To name a few of our achievements: frequent change of server gear with newer and more powerful one; rewriting the most commonly used software (such as Apache & php) in order to serve web pages even faster; tuning up our OS so it serves millions of requests per minute; adding multiple server locations across the globe so that content is nearer to your users, etc.

Joomla World Conference: a story by different storytellers!

With Robbie Adair

Last week we returned from the inaugural Joomla World Conference – the first worldwide gathering for Joomla fans from all over the globe that was held in San Jose, California! As you probably know, we’ve supported and attended quite a lot of Joomla events this year, each of them absolutely fantastic and different in its own way, but this one turned out to be really special for us! Why? What really made a difference was the atmosphere and the feeling of the event – unlike the first Joomla events we attended when we felt a bit new to the community and didn’t know almost anyone, at the Joomla World Conference it was exactly the opposite – we felt like part of the community and being there wasn’t just about meeting new people, it was more like meeting friends! But most of all, it was the amazing SiteGround customers we met there and their great stories they’ve shared with us.

Hardware Upgrades 2012

SiteGround New Gear

If you are a SiteGround client and you have been one for more than a couple of years, you probably have noticed that we tend to change our hardware quite often. This has been mine and SiteGrounds’ philosophy for quite some time now.

Most hosts will brag about high-tech brand new hardware configurations on their websites but what remains hidden is that they use this hardware only for the new servers they set up. Usually, they won’t replace a working machine for any reason. In fact they will keep it (even if 5 years old) until it’s dead broken and they are forced to restore all affected websites from a backup. This means that even if you get a good hardware initially, as time goes by you will be stuck with it and you will get slower and crappier service until your old server crashes and you are “lucky” to be moved to the new hardware.
