14th of November, what a day.. I woke up at 6am, which is extremely unusual for me. However, the jetlag and the constant beeps from the birthday wishes coming to my phone made it much easier. Yes, it was my birthday and yes, I was far away from home. To be more precise I was in Orlando and the unusual plan for my birthday included meeting few of the SiteGround customers for the first ever SiteGround Open Bar event!

SiteGround has launched publicly a new hosting program aimed at university students, faculty members, and academic organizations. The program has started as an internal initiative when SiteGround agreed to provide free hosting for the students of several university professors who were using the company’s hosting services for their personal projects. Now it has grown into a full-fledged program accessible through a separate section of SiteGround’s website.
The program has two branches, aimed at the two main target audiences — the educators and the individual students. The offer for the faculty members is essentially the same that got the whole program started: it allows each approved professor to enroll anyone, who participates in his/her course, for a free hosting account. The main new thing in the SiteGround students hosting program though is that individual students can now participate as well. Each student can get a one year full-featured hosting account by SiteGround at a highly-discounted price. The only requirement is to provide a valid e-mail with the .edu extension. Another addition to the program is the opportunity for student organizations to partner with SiteGround and receive free hosting for their websites.
“Now that we have successfully helped more than 700 students get a high-quality hosting for their university courses we are ready to move forward and extend this opportunity to the whole population of future designers, developers, and content creators to try state-of-the-art hosting solution” said Ilia Markov of SiteGround’s marketing department who was responsible for coordinating the launch of the new program.

Even though it’s freezing here in Boston, what kept us warm during the last weekend, apart from the really cool RedComponent swag hats, was the great community feeling that was all around Joomla World Conference 2013! The high quality of the event organization, the wide mix of the topics, the great speakers and the opportunity to meet so many of our favorite #jpositive people made us very happy to be there. This question is getting quite tricky recently. Now that a native autoupdater is included in the WordPress itself (it is one of the major new features in WordPress 3.7, that was released last week), will you ever again be required to click manually on the upgrade link in the WordPress admin? One of my favourite SiteGround projects that kept some of us quite busy recently is now successfully rolled out! I am very happy to tell you that we have integrated Git in our hosting service. Last weekend was all about WordCamp Europe! The city of Leiden in the Netherlands got shaken up by the WordPress people. The first and biggest WordPress European event was something to remember as there were lots of great stories told, new things learned, friendships made, and it was all topped up by the wildest event after party I have seen recently. So if you were not there you definitely missed a lot!
